Custom Fields and Controls: Advanced Customization Support Rarely Found Elsewhere

While many invoicing applications let you choose from different invoice formats and make limited changes to them, Invoice Manager takes Excel-based customization further by supporting custom fields and Excel form controls.

Define relationships such as discounts, tax calculations, line totals, subtotals, and other calculations with ordinary Excel formulas. Invoice Manager respects and preserves those formulas, so the logic of your invoice remains visible and under your control.

You can also add extra data fields and columns for information such as project codes, contract numbers, department names, or a per-product discount level. Invoice Manager requires the following:

Use the Search Bar in the Customers, Products, and Invoices data-list windows. Select a field, choose an operator such as Equals or Contains, enter the search value, and click Search. Yes. You can create separate template/database pairs for different companies or currencies and keep them in separate folders or with different file names. Each template can connect to its intended database.

First check whether the Invoice ribbon tab is available and whether the template is still in Design Mode. If the ribbon is missing, restart Excel and verify that Invoice Manager is enabled as an Excel add-in. Install Invoice Manager on the new computer, then copy the template file and the database file used by the old computer. Reconnect the template to the copied database when necessary and save the template so it remembers the new database path. The official FAQ provides the detailed transfer procedure.

The desktop Invoice Manager requires a locally installed copy of Excel on Windows. For browser-based Excel, use Invoice Manager Lite, the free Excel web add-in that works with the 400+ templates.

A Great Time Saver

Although the Lite edition is not as powerful as Invoice Manager, it can still save you a great deal of time.

If you use only the raw invoice template, you have to clear the existing cell contents one cell at a time before creating each new invoice. This is time-consuming.

Invoice Manager Lite is created to deal with this pain. It is an Excel web add-in available through Microsoft Marketplace and works with both the desktop and web versions of Excel.

Install Invoice Manager Lite

Invoice Manager Lite is available from Microsoft Marketplace and works with both Excel for the web and desktop Excel. Follow these steps to install Invoice Manager Lite.

  1. Open Excel for the Web or desktop Excel.
  2. Select Home > Add-ins.
  3. Select More Add-ins.
  4. In the Office Add-ins box, select the Store tab.
  5. In the search box, enter "Invoice" (without the quotation marks) to search for apps related to invoicing.
  6. In the search results, find Invoice Manager Lite.
  7. Click Add to install it in Excel.

Uninstall Invoice Manager Lite

Your invoice templates remain ordinary Excel files, so removing the add-in does not remove the template files you have downloaded and customized.

  1. Open Excel for the Web or desktop Excel.
  2. Select Home > Add-ins.
  3. Select More Add-ins.
  4. Make sure My Add-ins is the active tab.
  5. Find Invoice Manager Lite and right-click it.
  6. Select Uninstall.
